I love Disney history. There are so many things that have happened at the Disney parks over the years that I bet you never knew. Well today, we are going to look into one such event that happened at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and it involves that extremely popular group the Fab Four, more commonly known as the Beatles.
Most people (unless you were born in the last decade or two) are very familiar with the Beatles. This mop-topped group from the UK comprised of members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison first made it big in the 1960's. They then brought Beatlemania to the United States in 1964 to play on the Ed Sullivan Show (another little known reference for us older folks). Over the years, the band members began to have some conflict, as many groups do. There was talk of a breakup as early as 1968 but there was never a legal document detailing the breakup until 1974. Paul, George, and Ringo had already signed the document but no one knew where John Lennon had gone.
Surprise! John Lennon was on vacation in Florida. So a lawyer went to Florida to get John to sign the document, but you'll never guess where! John Lennon was staying at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. So on December 29, 1974, John Lennon signed the document that officially ended the Beatles career at Disney's Polynesian Resort. Such a happy place for such a sad ending. The room that John was staying in is rumored to be in the Samoa Longhouse (possibly Room 1601). So if you're a Beatles fan, you might want to see if that room is available next time you book.
So there you go, some Disney history you probably didn't know. And I've got more for another episode so stayed tuned for more!
